Prince Adebayo, the Social Democratic Party’s presidential candidate in 2023, has raised concerns over comments made by Nigeria’s Minister of Defence, appointed by President Bola Tinubu. In a video aired on SYMFONI TV, Adebayo referenced the minister’s claim that bombs cannot effectively penetrate thick bushes, which he said has affected efforts to capture terrorists.
Adebayo described the statement as alarming, stressing that such remarks from a defense leader are “foolish” and undermine public confidence in national security operations. According to him, the minister admitted that thick vegetation limits bomb effectiveness, a point that has reportedly hampered military operations against insurgents.
He said, “The person Tinubu appointed as his Minister of Defence, of all the people in Nigeria today who know something about defence, says that bombs are not entirely placed in bushes. When the bush is too thick, the bombs cannot enter. That’s why they haven’t captured terrorists.” Adebayo added that the minister reportedly tried to downplay the comment when confronted, but the statement was nonetheless made.
The remark has sparked debate among citizens and analysts, highlighting concerns over strategies employed in the fight against terrorism.
