Bello El-Rufai, Member of the House of Representatives representing Kaduna North, has praised President Bola Tinubu’s recent national security overhaul while calling for consistent implementation and measurable benchmarks. Speaking during a plenary session on Thursday, El-Rufai highlighted the need for uniformity in judicial outcomes for convicted terrorists, noting that inconsistent sentencing undermines public confidence in the fight against insecurity, according to Leadership News.
He stressed that citizens expect penalties to reflect the severity of offences and that a transparent, predictable justice system is essential. El-Rufai described Tinubu’s reforms as a significant step toward strengthening security agencies, improving operational capacity, and enhancing coordination across government institutions.
“The president has rolled out a clear plan that we commend. Many of my colleagues have rightly spoken about this, and I agree. But our problem is not in making plans, it’s in executing them with clear timelines. This parliament must insist upon those timelines based on the president’s recommendations,” El-Rufai said.
He urged the National Assembly to track the implementation of security measures, ensuring that every component is matched with a timeline for monitoring. Emphasizing that past initiatives struggled due to slow execution, El-Rufai called for accountability, consistency, and organisation across all institutions involved in national security.
