A grieving mother in Delta State has cried out over the loss of her two sons, both of whom she alleges were killed in separate incidents involving police officers, in a case that has reignited concerns over police conduct in Nigeria.
In a post shared by Vanguard Newspaper on its official X handle on Wednesday, the woman, mother of 28-year-old musician Oghenemine Ogidi, popularly known as OG Millan, recounted her ordeal during a condolence visit by community figures.
According to the report, the distraught mother broke down in tears, revealing that her late son was the second child she had lost under circumstances involving the police.
“They first took my son in 2022, and now they have taken another one from me again. How do I survive this?” she said, expressing deep anguish over the repeated tragedy.
The latest incident has drawn public attention following the fatal shooting of Ogidi, allegedly by an officer identified as Assistant Superintendent of Police, Nuhu Usman, who has since been detained.
Police authorities had earlier confirmed the officer’s arrest, stating that the shooting occurred during an operation by personnel attached to the Area Command in Effurun. According to the official account, the team acted on intelligence suggesting that the victim was in possession of a firearm.
However, the circumstances surrounding the incident have been widely disputed after a viral video surfaced online. The footage, which has sparked outrage, appears to show the victim restrained and pleading before the fatal shot was fired.
