The Regional Chairman of the Church of Christ in Nations, Reverend Ezekiel Dachomo, has raised concerns over the conversion of one of his church buildings into a mosque following a violent attack in Mangu Local Government Area, Plateau State. He warned that the incident reflects a growing pattern of displacement affecting local communities.
Speaking in an interview with Channels TV, Rev. Dachomo described the transformation of the religious facility. “They turned our church building into mosques in the Mangu area. That is the place where they attacked our people,” he said, emphasizing the significance of the location in recent violent events.
Reflecting on past attacks in the area, the cleric recalled the 2012 killing of late Senator Gyang Dantong, who was murdered while attending a burial ceremony for victims of earlier violence. “Senator Gyang Dantong was killed at the burial ground, where they burned people alive. They killed whom they could kill. They slaughtered whom they could slaughter. We went for mass burials, not knowing that they used the mass burials to bring an attack,” Dachomo stated.
The Reverend further highlighted the widespread displacement affecting Plateau State, claiming that over 161 villages and communities have been abandoned as residents flee attacks.
