Tinubu: Terrorism Is Trans-Border, You Need International Support, You Must Engage Allies – Adebayo

In an interview reported by Tribune on Saturday, November 29, 2025, former presidential candidate and Social Democratic Party (SDP) leader, Prince Adewole Adebayo, criticised the federal government’s newly declared national security emergency. He described the move as “academic,” suggesting it may not deliver the impact Nigerians expect.

Adebayo said the government’s plan to recruit additional personnel into the army and police had been repeated for years without addressing the fundamental issues within Nigeria’s security system. He noted that since the rise of Boko Haram in 2008, successive administrations had made similar declarations that were neither fully executed nor followed through.

According to him, the emphasis on manpower overlooks deeper challenges such as weak command structures, ineffective coordination, and low morale among frontline officers. He stressed the need for strong leadership, community collaboration, and improved welfare for security operatives to enhance response capabilities.

Adebayo also reacted to recent changes in military leadership and ongoing discussions about state policing, saying the timing suggested uncertainty within the administration. He believed such decisions should have been prioritised earlier to provide clearer direction in the fight against insecurity.

Highlighting the global nature of terrorism, Adebayo said Nigeria must deepen its cooperation with international partners who possess stronger military and intelligence capacity. He mentioned that alliances with nations such as the United States and Russia could significantly boost Nigeria’s efforts to counter cross-border threats. Your phone could be secretly spying on you.
