US President Donald Trump has shared an AI-generated image of himself and members of his cabinet relaxing in the Lincoln Memorial reflecting pool, drawing attention online as plans for the site’s renovation move forward.
The edited image, posted on his Truth Social platform, shows Trump floating in a gold inflatable chair giving a thumbs up, alongside Vice President JD Vance and Secretary of State Marco Rubio. Interior Secretary Doug Burgum also appears in the mock-up.
The post appears to reference an ongoing renovation project at the Lincoln Memorial Reflecting Pool, where the government is reportedly spending $1.5 million to repair leaks in the granite foundation and apply a new bright blue coating ahead of the United States’ 250th anniversary celebrations.
Trump criticised the previous administration while announcing the work, writing: “Secretary of the Interior Doug Burgum and I are working on fixing the absolutely filthy Reflecting Pool… This work was supposed to be done by the Biden Administration, but Sleepy Joe doesn’t know what ‘CLEAN’ or proper maintenance is, The President and Secretary do!”
The renovation is part of a wider set of plans tied to the country’s upcoming anniversary of independence on July 4, 2026. The administration has proposed several high-profile initiatives, including a large-scale arch monument dubbed the “Arc de Trump,” designed to mirror Paris’ Arc de Triomphe, as well as a mixed martial arts event on the White House lawn.
The United States is preparing to mark 250 years since its declaration of independence in 1776, with celebrations expected to differ significantly from the bicentennial events held in 1976.
Trump has also floated additional ideas, including commemorative coins bearing his image, a proposal that would challenge long-standing US laws prohibiting living individuals from appearing on currency. The AI image and broader plans have sparked debate online, with critics questioning the tone and priorities of the celebrations, while supporters view them as part of an ambitious effort to mark a historic national milestone.
