US Mission Warns Nigerian Travellers Over Visa Overstays

The United States Mission in Nigeria has again urged Nigerian travellers to follow immigration rules.

In a statement shared on its X account on Monday, the mission warned that staying longer than allowed on a visa could create problems for other applicants in the future.

The mission stressed that obeying U.S. visa conditions is important to keep travel opportunities open and fair for genuine travellers.

It explained that when people overstay their visas or break entry rules, it can affect how applications from others in the same country are viewed, which may influence future visa approvals.

Visa overstays by Nigerian travellers can affect opportunities for their fellow citizens,” the advisory stated.

“Strengthening compliance helps protect access for students, business travellers, and families who travel responsibly.”

The mission noted that many Nigerians visit the U.S for different reasons, including education, business, tourism, and family trips.

It encouraged travellers to respect the terms of their visas throughout their stay.

The mission also raised concerns about visa fraud and misuse of travel documents, describing them as serious issues.

Members of the public were asked to help by reporting any reliable information about such activities via [email protected] or [email protected].

The mission said it remains committed to promoting safe and lawful travel between Nigeria and the United States, while ensuring that those who follow the rules are not affected by the actions of others.
