Former PDP National Publicity Secretary, Olisa Metuh, has officially announced his departure from the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) to join the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC). Speaking at a thanksgiving service in Abuja to mark his 60th birthday, Metuh explained that his decision was influenced by the support he received from APC members during his personal challenges, which he said was absent from his former party.
“When I had problems I did not see my party; I did not see the people I suffered for,” Metuh said, highlighting what he described as neglect from the PDP. The event drew prominent political figures, including Imo State Governor Hope Uzodinma, former Senate President Anyim Pius Anyim, and former governors Okezie Ikpeazu, Sam Egwu, and Ikedi Ohakim.
Speaking to journalists, Metuh emphasized that his move is motivated by patriotism and a desire to contribute to national development rather than personal ambition. “I am trying to make sure that I assist the government at the centre, the president of the Federal Republic of Nigeria, to deliver the dividends of democracy,” he stated.
He recalled that during his court trials, President Bola Tinubu, then leader of the opposition, had reached out through Femi Gbajabiamila to offer comfort—a gesture Metuh described as pivotal. While expressing goodwill toward the PDP, he stressed that he has moved on and remains committed to public service under his new party.
Metuh also dismissed concerns about a potential one-party dominance in Nigeria, pointing to prominent opposition figures like Atiku Abubakar, Peter Obi, and David Mark, who continue to play key roles in the country’s political landscape.
