Zubby Michael has opened up about why he chose to stay away from relationships during the early years of his acting career, revealing that his main focus at the time was building a successful future in the movie industry.
Speaking during an interview with Broadway TV, the Nollywood actor explained that he deliberately avoided romantic distractions while struggling to establish himself, particularly during his days in Asaba when he was trying to gain recognition in the competitive film industry.
According to Zubby, relationships can sometimes come with emotional stress capable of affecting a person’s concentration and productivity.
He admitted that he feared becoming emotionally attached to someone at a stage when he needed to dedicate all his energy and attention to his career growth.
The actor noted that while he has great respect and admiration for women, he believed there was a proper time for everything in life. He stated that his priority back then was to secure financial stability and create a better future for himself before considering serious romantic commitments.
Zubby explained that he often worried that misunderstandings or emotional problems from a relationship could negatively affect his performance on movie sets and reduce his ability to stay fully committed to his craft. Because of this, he chose discipline and hard work over romance.
Now more financially stable and successful, the actor says he feels more comfortable opening his heart to the possibility of love and companionship.
He proudly revealed that he now owns his own house and has reached a stage where he can finally consider settling down.
The movie star stressed that his decision was never about disliking women but about understanding timing and personal priorities. He encouraged young people to focus on building themselves before rushing into relationships they may not be emotionally or financially prepared for.
Zubby’s comments also revived conversations surrounding an earlier playful exchange with fellow Nollywood actress Rachael Okonkwo.
In the viral clip, he jokingly suggested that her success and achievements may have intimidated potential suitors.
However, Rachael defended her accomplishments, insisting that building a strong foundation for herself should not stop her from finding genuine love. She also questioned why many men failed to approach her during her struggling years before fame and success arrived.
