Bukky Wright has revealed that her decision to join the film industry was not originally driven by fame or celebrity ambitions, but by a deeply personal reason connected to her children.
The veteran Nollywood actress made this disclosure during a panel session at an event in Lagos, where she reflected on her journey, personal struggles, and the challenges she faced both in her private life and entertainment career.
According to Wright, she initially went into acting with the hope that her children would eventually be able to locate and reconnect with her as they grew older.
She explained that at the time, she never imagined becoming a public figure or a celebrated star in the Nigerian film industry.
Her statement shed light on a painful chapter in her life, as she revealed that her children were taken away from her at a very young age following her marriage into a wealthy family.
She noted that the family did not believe she had a promising future, which contributed to the separation.
Despite the emotional toll of the experience, the actress said she remained determined to build her life and career.
Over the years, she gradually established herself in Nollywood and went on to become one of the industry’s most respected figures.
Wright expressed gratitude for how her journey eventually unfolded, stating that what began as a personal mission unexpectedly turned into a successful acting career. She emphasized that she never set out to become a celebrity, but life pushed her in that direction.
The actress, whose real name is Oluwabukola Sekinat Ajoke Wright, began her acting career in 1996 and has since featured in numerous Yoruba and English-language films.
Her filmography includes notable titles such as Super Story, Saworo Ide, Omotara Johnson, Red Circle, and Aso Ebi Diaries.
Born in Abeokuta, Ogun State, she also holds a degree in Economics from the University of Lagos. Today, she is regarded as one of the pioneers of modern Nollywood, with a career that has spanned decades and inspired many younger actors in the industry.
