Pastor Paul Eneche of Dunamis International Gospel Centre has shared a remarkable testimony about why he turned down a substantial birthday gift from his congregation 25 years ago. In a video shared by Church Gist on Friday, November 28, 2027, Eneche recounted how he refused the ₦675,000 raised in his honor, emphasizing his principles on pastoral integrity.
The incident took place in 2000 when a visiting preacher encouraged the church to bless Pastor Eneche on his birthday, referencing the biblical teaching that those who water others will themselves be watered. The congregation enthusiastically collected the money, yet Eneche publicly declined the gift, explaining that he had not solicited it and did not require the funds.
“I wanted to appreciate the gesture, but three things guided my decision: the scriptural advice was correct, I didn’t ask for it, and I personally didn’t need the money,” he said. He returned the full amount to the church treasury, a decision that surprised many, including his own pastors. One pastor even knelt before him, questioning why he would reject money intended for him.
Pastor Eneche’s actions underscore his commitment to the principle of not monetizing his pastoral role and setting an example of selflessness and integrity in ministry. The story has continued to inspire members of his congregation and others across Nigeria who value ethical leadership in religious institutions.
