Senator Ali Ndume has criticized President Bola Tinubu and other senior officials for relying on oversized security convoys, arguing that the practice unnecessarily endangers ordinary citizens and disrupts daily life. The comments were reported by Daily Post on Thursday, November 27, 2025.
Ndume highlighted that many public office holders travel with far larger security details than needed, causing traffic congestion and limiting free movement in urban areas. He specifically noted the president’s convoy as especially large and often unnecessary, suggesting protection should focus on immediate security needs without inconveniencing the public.
“When convoys block roads or require wide areas to be cordoned off, the public is left at risk,” Ndume explained. He proposed that security agencies adopt more strategic measures, such as securing areas ahead of officials’ movements and withdrawing once the convoy passes, thereby enhancing safety while minimizing disruption.
The senator further suggested that even the president could travel with fewer security personnel once an area is secured. “Even the president is accompanied by an excessively large entourage. Take precautions, then withdraw when the president leaves. The president can even drive himself out of Abuja once the area is secured,” he said.
