“Your Silence Is Loud!” – Illbliss Calls Out Artists Who Ignore Nigeria’s Suffering, Applauds Falz’s Courage

Veteran Nigerian rapper Tobechukwu Melvin Ejiofor, aka Illbliss, has taken a bold swipe at fellow entertainers who have kept quiet while the country drowns in economic hardship and insecurity.

Appearing on The Real Shareholders podcast, Illbliss didn’t mince words. He accused many Nigerian artists of turning a blind eye to the struggles of ordinary citizens, choosing instead to protect their government ties or brand image.

“There are very commendable names that have come out to speak and join protests and even get arrested. Falz The Bahd Guy is one of them. He has a whole project titled Moral Instruction. I dare believe that it is probably Falz’s album with the least streams or commercial success because he was hugely introspective. It mirrored society.”

Illbliss, known for his politically conscious music, said many entertainers have chosen silence because they’re insulated by power and privilege.

“Perhaps, they know that regardless of whatever you say, the government will do what it wants. Or, they are just playing safe because the people in the government are their godfathers. They invite them to their events.”

Falz Stands Out as the Example

Illbliss praised Falz for choosing activism over applause, referencing the EndSARS movement, in which Falz played a leading role, as well as his bold music projects that challenge bad governance.

“He [Falz] is sacrificing streaming numbers and corporate endorsements to speak the truth. That’s leadership,” Illbliss said.

His comments have reignited conversations on whether artists have a moral responsibility to speak out during national crises, especially when they benefit from the same fans who suffer daily under poor leadership.

Fans on social media have echoed Illbliss’s sentiments, urging more artists to “step up, not sell out.”
