Nollywood actor has stirred fresh political debate after sharing his strong views about the future of Labour Party figure .
In a post on his X (formerly Twitter) page, the actor claimed that any political platform Obi associates with would struggle to survive, insisting that his current political moves are already doomed.
“Any political party Peter Obi joins will scatter. Whatever he’s doing with ADC is dead on arrival. A total waste of time. It’s not a physical problem. It’s deeper than that. I’m surprised he doesn’t know this already. Or maybe he knows but chooses to ignore it. But the truth remains the truth. Peter Obi cannot be President of Nigeria now,” he wrote.
Edochie’s remarks have reignited conversations about his evolving political stance, especially considering his previous support for Obi during the 2023 presidential election.
From Obi Supporter To Tinubu Loyalist
During the 2022 election season, Edochie was among several public figures who openly backed Obi’s presidential ambition under the Labour Party. At the time, his support aligned with a growing movement of Nigerians who rallied behind Obi’s reform-driven campaign.
However, following the election outcome, the actor made a notable shift in allegiance, throwing his support behind Nigeria’s current president, .
Despite the switch, Edochie has maintained that his respect for Obi remains intact. In a previous statement, he described Obi as a “great Nigerian” and expressed belief that his time in leadership could still come in the future—if it aligns with divine will.
Strong Endorsement Of Tinubu
Since aligning with Tinubu, Edochie has consistently praised the president’s leadership, often highlighting what he perceives as improvements in governance.
In past social media posts, the actor credited Tinubu’s administration with increased electricity supply in some parts of the country and a reduction in security threats. He has repeatedly referred to the president as a “master strategist” and “silent achiever.”
Edochie has also taken his support a step further by actively promoting pro-government narratives, including launching a campaign initiative tagged “Relax, Jagaban will fix this country.”
His loyalty was later formalised with his appointment as Deputy Southeast Coordinator for the pro-Tinubu group, Relax Tinubu Is Fixing Nigeria (RTIFN). Following the announcement, he declared himself ready for both “battle and service.”
Public Reactions And Controversy
The actor’s political commentary has not come without backlash. His outspoken support for Tinubu and criticism of opposing figures, including Obi, has drawn mixed reactions from Nigerians, particularly on social media.
At one point, Edochie sparked outrage after criticising some members of the Igbo community who opposed Tinubu, using harsh language to address dissenting voices.
He has also publicly reaffirmed his commitment to Tinubu’s leadership ahead of the 2027 elections, stating emphatically that it is “Tinubu or nothing.”
A Pattern Of Bold Declarations
Edochie’s latest comments about Obi continue a pattern of bold and often polarising political statements. While some supporters view his stance as an expression of personal conviction, others see it as unnecessarily provocative.
His assertion that Obi’s political efforts are “dead on arrival” adds another layer to Nigeria’s already heated political discourse, especially as conversations about future elections gradually begin to take shape.
For now, Obi has not publicly responded to the actor’s remarks. However, the statement has once again placed both figures at the centre of public attention, reinforcing how celebrity voices continue to influence political conversations in Nigeria.
As debates continue, Edochie’s comments highlight the deep divisions in political opinion—and the role public figures play in amplifying them.
