In a recent statement via his official X account, the national chairman of the Peoples Redemption Party (PRP), Dr. Hakeem Baba-Ahmed has criticized the continued detention of former Kaduna State governor, Nasir El-Rufai, saying the situation is beginning to look politically motivated.
”So it is possible for the judicial process to keep a citizen in detention from one place to another, facing multiple charges from different sources. Ad infinatum. El-Rufai is looking more and more like a political prisoner. He loses freedom and gains sympathy. Govt loses case and cause,” he wrote.
In his post, Baba-Ahmed questioned the judicial process that has kept El-Rufai facing different legal battles and repeated detention, he argued that the former governor is being moved from one case to another without gaining freedom despite several court proceedings.
According to him, the development is creating a public impression that El-Rufai is no longer being treated like an ordinary citizen facing trial, but like a political target, he warned that prolonged detention and multiple charges from different authorities could damage public confidence in the justice system.
Baba-Ahmed stated that the longer the situation continues, the more sympathy El-Rufai may receive from Nigerians, he added that the government could also lose public support if many people begin to see the case as persecution rather than a lawful prosecution.
