A Nigerian nurse working in Ireland has broken her silence over a series of racist attacks she says she has endured, all while in her nursing uniform.
In a video shared online, the healthcare worker described being targeted on three separate occasions by young boys who told her to “go back to her country.” The attacks, she says, are not isolated incident, many of her colleagues and fellow immigrants are facing the same hostility.
The experience has had a direct impact on her life: she has since purchased a car to avoid being vulnerable on the streets. She expressed deep concern for others in similar situations who cannot afford to do the same. The nurse reserved particular frustration for those who downplay or dismiss reports of racism in the region.
She called out individuals who acknowledge historical divisions in Ireland and Northern Ireland but stop short of explicitly condemning the racist violence being carried out by young people today, arguing that silence and deflection only embolden the attackers.
