The Bauchi State Police Command has arrested a 26-year-old man for the m8rder of his 70-year-old grandfather in Ganjuwa Local Government Area of the state.
The spokesperson for the command, SP Nafiu Habib, disclosed this in a statement on Friday, May 22, 2026.
According to the PPRO, the suspect identified as Bashar Aliyu, allegedly st@bbed the victim, Ibrahim Maisaje to d3ath in his room on 17th May.
“The Bauchi State Police Command has arrested a 26-year-old man for allegedly st@bbing his 70-year-old grandfather to d3ath in Sabon Kariya Village, Ganjuwa Local Government Area,” the statement read.
“According to a report received by the Divisional Police Headquarters, Ganjuwa, on 17th May 2026 at about 1700 hours, a 58-year-old man resident of Sabon Kariya Village reported that earlier that day at approximately 1630 hours, one Bashar Aliyu, male, aged 26 years, allegedly used a knife to st@b his grandfather, Ibrahim Maisaje, aged 70 years, in the victim’s room.
“Police operatives immediately visited the scene of the incident. The corpse was evacuated and taken to the General Hospital, Kafin Madaki, where a medical doctor on duty certified the victim d3ad.
“Following the report, the suspect was promptly arrested and preliminary investigation conducted. No exhibit was recovered at the scene.
“The case has been transferred to the State Criminal Investigation Department, SCID, Bauchi, for discreet and thorough investigation.
“The Commissioner of Police, CP Sani-Omolori Aliyu, mni, psc(+), condemned the act and assured the public that justice would be pursued in accordance with the law.
“He further urged community members to promote peaceful conflict resolution and to report suspicious activities promptly to prevent such tragedies.”
