John Paulson and his former wife Jenny Paulson have reached a settlement in their long running divorce dispute, bringing an end to years of legal battles over wealth and family trusts.
According to reports, the settlement was officially filed on May 4, though details of the agreement remain sealed. In a joint statement released through their attorneys, both sides confirmed the matter had been resolved privately. “Jenny Paulson and John Paulson have come to the decision to amicably settle their divorce and trust-related litigations,” said Jenny’s lawyer Robert S. Cohen and John’s attorney Marilyn Chinitz.
“They consider this settlement a private matter and neither party nor any family nor friends of the parties will have any further comment.” The settlement concludes a bitter legal dispute that began after the couple separated following more than two decades of marriage.
In 2022, Jenny accused the billionaire investor of using complex trusts to shield assets during the divorce proceedings. John’s legal team denied the allegations, arguing the trusts had been established years earlier for the benefit of their children.

Reports later claimed John offered his former wife hundreds of millions of dollars in cash as part of the divorce settlement. However, Jenny reportedly rejected the proposal, saying she believed she deserved a more equal division of the couple’s fortune. “In my heart and my spirit I feel I deserve a 50/50 split,” she reportedly wrote in an email referenced in court proceedings.
She also described some of the offers as “disrespectful, shameful and humiliating.” John’s legal team argued at the time that the proposed settlement would still make her one of the wealthiest women in America while preserving family trusts for their daughters.
The legal fight also sparked public clashes between both sides’ attorneys over the scale of the financial offers being discussed. A source familiar with the matter said serious settlement discussions intensified earlier this year after encouragement from the judge overseeing the case.
“The talks began in earnest earlier this year,” the source said, adding that the agreement was “fair to everybody.” The former couple were also reportedly involved in disputes over luxury properties in the Hamptons and Aspen. Reports indicated the pair did not have a prenuptial agreement.
Paulson became famous for earning billions by betting against the US housing market before the 2008 financial crisis. His fortune has been estimated at around $4.7 billion. The 70 year old billionaire is now engaged to Alina de Almeida, and the couple reportedly welcomed a daughter last year.
