Nigerian skit maker and actress KieKie has spoken openly about a lesser-known part of her personal journey with her husband, Tunji Ilori, revealing that they lived together for a short period before officially getting married.
She shared the experience during a conversation with media personality Toke Makinwa, where she reflected on how everyday circumstances influenced that stage of her life. According to her, the arrangement was not something she set out to do for a long time, but rather a practical decision tied to timing and financial considerations.
“Before my husband and I got married, we lived together for about four months. My rent had expired, and we were getting married in January, so I said to myself, ‘Why pay another rent?’ People might judge it, but I wasn’t going to waste money. We’d already done our introduction. The church didn’t know about it, and I used to sing in church that time,”
Her comments give context to how the period unfolded, especially as she was still actively involved in church activities at the time, including singing. Despite this, she explained that the relationship had already reached a stage where both families had completed the traditional introduction, which made the transition feel more settled for them personally.
KieKie described the situation as one shaped by convenience and timing rather than a carefully planned arrangement. With her wedding already scheduled and her living situation coming to an end, she and her husband decided to share a home temporarily before officially formalizing their union.
Over time, she has continued to balance her growing career in entertainment with her responsibilities in marriage and family life. Her openness about this phase has drawn attention because it gives a personal view of how private decisions are sometimes influenced by everyday realities that are not always visible to the public.
