I’m Not Sure of Remaining in APC by 2027; I Want Another Southerner to Replace Tinubu — El-Rufai

Former Kaduna State Governor, Nasir El-Rufai, has said he wants a Southerner to succeed President Bola Tinubu in the 2027 election, as reported by LEADERSHIP.

The embattled chieftain of the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) also stated that he was not sure of remaining in the party by 2027.

He shared his opinion during an interview on Arise News Channel’s PrimeTime show on Tuesday night.

El-Rufai, a member of the ruling APC, further hinted that he might leave the party before 2027. While he did not confirm his future political plans, he suggested that he was reconsidering his membership.

Speaking on President Tinubu’s appointments, El-Rufai dismissed claims that the president was favoring the South-West region. Instead, he argued that Tinubu was appointing people close to him, not necessarily individuals from his ethnic group.

El-Rufai’s comments come at a time of growing debate over the 2027 presidential election. Many political figures are already discussing who should lead Nigeria after Tinubu.

While some Northern politicians believe power should return to their region, El-Rufai thinks it should remain in the South.
