In Court We Noticed A Strange Occurrence, A Crew Of TVC News Walked In To Take B-roll Footage -Sowore

According to a statement on X on Friday, May 8, 2026, activist and former presidential aspirant, Omoyele Sowore on Friday dramatically confronted a television crew inside a Federal High Court in Abuja, accusing them of receiving a pre-packaged ruling in his ongoing cybercrime trial for calling President Bola Tinubu a “criminal.”

Sowore, leader of the African Action Congress (AAC), was awaiting Justice Mohammed Garba Umar’s decision on his no-case submission when he spotted the TVC News team filming B-roll footage in the courtroom. He immediately challenged them, claiming they had advance knowledge of the outcome.

“I immediately confronted them and made it clear that we understood the script already handed to them. They had apparently been given a copy of the ruling ahead of time and were only waiting for it to be formally delivered by their judge,” Sowore stated.

His suspicions appeared confirmed when the court dismissed the no-case submission shortly after. Justice Umar ruled that the Department of State Services (DSS) had established a prima facie case against Sowore, ordering him to open his defense on May 19, 2026.

Sowore, who faces a two-count amended charge of cyber stalking and defamation over social media posts labeling President Tinubu a criminal, has consistently described the prosecution as politically motivated. Following the ruling, he highlighted what he called selective reporting by the media crew.

“They rushed out without even waiting to report the aspect where we requested that the judge recuse himself over his conduct during the trial,” Sowore said. He accused the judge of bias, including an incident where the jurist allegedly asked his lawyer to kneel.
