Real Madrid Fine Valverde, Tchouameni €500,000 Each Over Dressing Room Fight

Real Madrid have fined Aurelien Tchouameni and Federico Valverde €500,000 each after they were involved in a heated clash during training that reportedly left Valverde injured.

The Spanish club confirmed the punishment in a statement released on Friday, May 8, 2026.

Despite the incident, Madrid decided not to hand either player any sporting suspension, saying the fine “thereby concludes the internal procedures” against them.

Valverde is expected to miss Sunday’s El Clasico against Barcelona after suffering a head injury during the confrontation.

According to the club, the 27-year-old midfielder could be sidelined for up to two weeks.

Tchouameni, however, trained normally on Friday and remains available for the match at Camp Nou.

Madrid said both players “expressed their complete remorse for what happened and apologised to each other during a club investigation.

“They extended their apologies to the club, their teammates, the coaching staff, and the fans, and both have made themselves available to Real Madrid to accept whatever sanction the club deems appropriate,” the statement reads.

It was gathered that Valverde was taken to a hospital close to Real Madrid’s Valdebebas training centre alongside coach Alvaro Arbeloa. He reportedly needed stitches after suffering a cut on his face.

After the incident, Valverde tried to calm the situation by denying reports that the altercation turned violent between him and Tchouameni.

In a statement, the midfielder explained that emotions and frustration from competition caused tensions to rise.

The strain of the competition and frustration caused the situation to escalate,” he wrote.

“I accidentally hit a table during the argument, causing a small cut on my forehead that required a routine visit to the hospital.

“At no point did my teammate hit me, and I didn’t hit him either.”

According to reports, the disagreement started during training on Wednesday and continued into Thursday.

Spanish media also alleged that Valverde refused to shake Tchouameni’s hand before later fouling him in training, with the argument reportedly continuing inside the dressing room.

The situation comes at a difficult time for Real Madrid, who are struggling in the league race.

The club currently trail Barcelona by 11 points in La Liga, and Hansi Flick’s side could secure another league title this weekend if they avoid defeat.
