Hollywood came alive in style and nostalgia as the premiere of the highly anticipated biopic Michael drew crowds to Los Angeles, celebrating the life and legacy of the late King of Pop, Michael Jackson.

The star-studded event, held on Monday, saw guests dressed in elegant black outfits and sparkling ensembles as fans gathered along the famous boulevard to witness the moment. The film, which chronicles Jackson’s rise from a child star in the Jackson 5 to a global music icon, comes 16 years after his passing and is set for theatrical release in the United States on Friday.

Director Antoine Fuqua described the premiere as both emotional and celebratory, noting the overwhelming support from fans and industry figures.

“It’s beautiful to see all these people here to support Michael Jackson and support the movie, and to show love for Michael,” he said.

A major highlight of the night was the strong presence of the Jackson family, who turned the premiere into a reunion of sorts. Leading the moment was Jaafar Jackson, Michael Jackson’s nephew, who takes on the challenging role of portraying the legendary performer in the film.

Reflecting on his acting debut, Jaafar described the experience as surreal.

“(This) being the first time that I’ve ever got into acting and to be able to portray my Uncle Michael, it’s so surreal,” he said.

“I’m still taking it in and not really realising how much it’s going to hit me or when it’s going to hit me. But, you know, it’s incredible.”

His performance has already earned praise from family members, including Jackie Jackson, who said the portrayal brought back powerful memories.

“When I watch the movie, I think I’m watching Michael on the stage… He did such a wonderful job. (It) brings tears to my eyes,” he said.

Another member of the group, Marlon Jackson, spoke about the deeper message behind the film, emphasising that the Jackson family’s story reflects universal experiences.

“I think people understand and realise that the Jackson family is no different from any family. We go through our trials and tribulations, ups and downs, but we learn to agree to disagree,” he noted.

The premiere also saw appearances from other family members, including La Toya Jackson, as they interacted with actors who portrayed them on screen, adding a personal and emotional layer to the event.

Actress Nia Long, who plays Katherine Jackson, highlighted the influence of the women in the family, noting their strength in shaping the household dynamic.

She expressed hope that audiences would come to see Michael Jackson not just as a global superstar but as a deeply compassionate individual.

She described him as “an artist who was a master of his artistry” and someone who “cared deeply about humanity.”

Actor Colman Domingo, who portrays Joe Jackson, also reflected on the broader significance of the film, suggesting it offers lessons beyond entertainment.

“Everyone has a story, and everyone has something you can learn from, just like a great album,” he said.

“Hopefully this film is a great album for someone, and if they could take something from it, then we did our job.”

With its emotional storytelling and strong family backing, “Michael” is expected to reignite conversations about the life, legacy, and enduring impact of one of music’s most iconic figures.
