Police in Mitooma District, Uganda, have arrested a 45-year-old woman accused of forcing her eight-year-old stepson to swallow dozens of sewing needles over several weeks.
According to reports by Daily Monitor, the suspect identified as Juliet Tushabeomwe allegedly subjected the child to the abuse over a period of nearly eight weeks.
The shocking incident reportedly came to light after the minor began complaining of severe stomach pain. Concerned about his deteriorating condition, the child’s aunt is said to have rushed him to hospital for medical examination.
Doctors later made the disturbing discovery after conducting medical tests, which revealed multiple sewing needles inside the child’s body.
The boy is currently admitted at Mbarara Regional Referral Hospital, where he is undergoing treatment and specialised procedures to remove the needles.
Police officers later arrested the suspect, who remains in custody as investigations continue.
Authorities are expected to recommend charges once investigations into the disturbing incident are completed.
