The General Overseer of the Redeemed Christian Church of God, Pastor Enoch Adeboye, has advised young men on what to consider before getting married, stressing that attraction and appearance alone are not enough to sustain a home.

Speaking during the May edition of the Holy Ghost Service, the respected cleric warned that many young men are making emotional decisions that could affect their future negatively if proper wisdom is not applied.

He explained that marriage goes beyond feelings and physical attraction, urging men to pay attention to character, discipline, and practical life skills.

Adeboye cautioned that some men are easily carried away by beauty without considering deeper values that make a home work. According to him, choosing a partner based only on looks can lead to long-term regret if other important qualities are missing.

He further advised men to ensure they marry women who are capable of managing a home effectively, including basic domestic responsibilities such as cooking and showing hospitality. He explained that these qualities play a key role in maintaining peace and stability in marriage.

The cleric also warned against unnecessary pressure during wedding planning, saying some relationships are already strained when financial stress begins before marriage.

He advised men to reconsider any arrangement that could push them into debt simply to satisfy extravagant wedding expectations.

Adeboye also spoke on moderation and lifestyle balance, encouraging men to be cautious of excessive appearances that may hide deeper issues. He noted that outward presentation does not always reflect true character, urging young men to seek spiritual guidance and discernment before making marital decisions.

According to him, wisdom is important in choosing a life partner, and ignoring simple but vital signs can lead to avoidable problems in marriage. He stressed that marriage should be approached with prayer, patience, and careful observation rather than pressure or emotional rush.

His message has since generated reactions, with many Nigerians sharing different opinions on social media about his comments on cooking, appearance, and marriage expectations.

Adeboye, however, maintained that his advice is aimed at helping young people build stronger and more stable homes, grounded in understanding, responsibility, and shared values.
