The family of slain Nairobi advocate Tom Ouya Imbukwa is still searching for answers after a postmortem examination confirmed he suffered severe and disturbing injuries before his death, deepening the mystery surrounding the brutal killing.
Speaking at the Kenyatta National Hospital (KNH) Farewell Home on Friday, April 24, the family’s lawyer, Njanja Maina, said the findings showed that the advocate had sustained extensive injuries, mainly on the right side of his body. However, he noted that the exact cause of those injuries has not yet been determined.
“We can confirm as a family that the postmortem established that he had severe injuries on the right side of his body. What has caused the injuries in the manner and extent has not been established,” Maina said.
The family also confirmed that investigators from the Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) have already collected samples from the body and the scene to aid in forensic analysis. Authorities are now working to piece together the final moments leading to the lawyer’s death.
“DCI officers from the investigative unit have taken samples for forensic analysis, with the injuries documented just to try and see what caused this death. We can emphasise that his injuries were, however, very, very severe,” the family lawyer added.
Even as the postmortem findings paint a grim picture, the family has urged the public to avoid speculation until investigations are complete. They revealed that they are scheduled to meet DCI officers next week, where they expect a detailed briefing, including analysis of CCTV footage and evidence gathered from the crime scene.
The killing has sparked outrage within Kenya’s legal community. The Law Society of Kenya (LSK) has strongly condemned the incident, calling for swift and transparent investigations to bring those responsible to justice.
LSK President Faith Odhiambo described the death as a shocking loss to the legal profession, stressing that early indications point to a violent assault before the murder.
As investigations continue, pressure is mounting on security agencies to unravel the circumstances behind the killing of the young advocate, in a case that has shocked both the legal fraternity and the public.
