Lere Olayinka Reacts After Seyi Makinde Warns APC Not To Incite Violence Ahead Of 2027 Election

Lere Olayinka, Media Aide to the FCT Minister Nyesome Wike, has launched a scathing criticism of Oyo State Governor, Seyi Makinde, following his remarks cautioning against political violence ahead of the 2027 general elections.
Makinde had issued the warning during the recent opposition leaders’ summit held in Ibadan, where he urged political actors, particularly members of the All Progressives Congress, to avoid actions that could incite unrest.

Reacting via his X handle on Saturday, Olayinka accused the governor of hypocrisy and alleged that his comments could themselves be interpreted as inciting tension.

“Partyless Governor Makinde wants a repeat of the South West ‘Operation Wetie’ political violence of the 60s just because he is no longer favoured by the system,” Olayinka said.

He further questioned the implications of such rhetoric coming from a sitting governor, warning about the seriousness of statements that could be perceived as encouraging violence.

“I just hope he knows the gravity of inciting violence, even as a sitting governor,” he added.

Olayinka also criticized Makinde’s political trajectory, alleging that the governor had failed in several political pursuits, including efforts within the Peoples Democratic Party and other local political matters in Oyo State.

The commentator further raised concerns over the handling of funds related to the Bodija explosion incident in Ibadan, accusing the governor of not providing adequate accountability.

The exchange has sparked mixed reactions across political circles, with supporters of Makinde defending his call for peaceful conduct, while critics align with Olayinka’s position.

Observers say the development underscores rising political tensions as stakeholders begin early positioning ahead of the 2027 elections, with increasing scrutiny of public statements by key political figures.

As of the time of filing this report, Governor Makinde has not issued a direct response to Olayinka’s latest remarks.
