Nigerian media aide Israel DMW has confirmed that an impersonator account operating in his name on Twitter has been taken down after he raised concerns about its activities.
The situation began some days ago when Israel noticed that a Twitter account was using his identity and posting content that could be misleading to the public.
Disturbed by the development, he took to social media to draw attention to the issue and shared a screenshot of one of the tweets made by the fake account. He also urged Nigerians to act quickly by reporting the page in order to prevent any possible damage to his name and reputation.
What made the case more concerning for him was that the account had already been verified, giving it an appearance of legitimacy. This, according to his reaction at the time, increased the potential risk of confusion among users who might believe the impersonator was genuinely him.
Following public attention and reports made by users, Twitter eventually intervened and suspended the account. The action brought an end to the activity of the impersonator page that had been posing as the media aide.
After the suspension, Israel DMW returned with an update confirming the development. He expressed appreciation to the platform for responding to the situation and taking the necessary steps to remove the account.
In his words, he said, “Thank you, Twitter. I no just get body wey dem go beat like this”.
The matter has now been resolved with the fake account no longer active on the platform. The incident drew attention to the increasing cases of identity misuse on social media, where individuals sometimes create accounts to imitate public figures and influencers for various purposes.
With the impersonator account suspended, Israel DMW is no longer facing concerns about the spread of false information under his name on Twitter. The focus now shifts back to his regular online presence without interference from fake profiles.
