Nollywood actress Sarah Martins has expressed frustration over what she describes as persistent financial demands from social media users flooding her direct messages.

Taking to her Instagram page, the actress revealed that her inbox is frequently filled with messages from people requesting assistance with rent, personal expenses, and family-related financial problems. She questioned why many online users assume she is in a position to solve their financial challenges.

According to her, the situation has become overwhelming, especially as many of the same individuals who ignore her business promotions are often quick to reach out privately with monetary requests.

Martins also criticised what she described as the lack of support for her entrepreneurial efforts, noting that her promotional content rarely receives the same attention as personal appeals for help.

“Some of you even bully me for making content to make sales for my brands as if you know what it takes to create content that converts. Pls stop already!” she wrote.

She further expressed disbelief at the nature of the requests she receives, questioning why people expect her to take responsibility for their financial obligations.

“‘Shebi make I hustle finish, then pack the money, give u, make u pay your 4.5m rent, as I no get my own bills to pay, abi???’” she added.

The actress also said she is increasingly uncomfortable opening her messages due to the volume of what she described as “bill-related” requests.

“I’m even scared to open my dm because it’s filled with bills… ogini????” she wrote.

Martins went on to highlight her philanthropic efforts, explaining that she regularly supports homeless children through food donations funded from her personal income. However, she noted that such efforts often go unnoticed or unappreciated.

“I can’t even remember the last time someone donated money to my NGO account, yet I cook weekly for homeless kids, and you all still do not encourage me enough because you think it’s easy to feed 150 people weekly,” she said.

She added that her charity work is done quietly and voluntarily, stressing that she never portrayed herself as someone responsible for paying people’s bills.

“The last time I checked, I only cook for homeless street kids with my little monthly profits from my business as my own way of giving back to society; there was never a time I told anyone I’m a messiah that offsets bills. Make Una leave me oooooo,” she explained.

Martins also criticised what she sees as selective engagement from social media users, pointing out that many people ignore her business advertisements but quickly send personal requests when in need.

“Patronise me mba, engage on my advert posts mba, share my advert posts mba, repost mba, but when e reach to write essay on how u haven’t eaten in years u run enter my dm… Wickeeeedd souls!!!!” she added.

Her comments have since sparked conversations online about celebrity pressure, online begging culture, and the expectations placed on public figures in Nigeria’s entertainment industry.
